Yesterday I visited a converted farm building in Harrington, Northamptonshire, and was excited to find that its stone walls conceal Britain’s newest gin distillery. Inside the small barn on Falls Farm lurks a thing of pure beauty – a gleaming copper gin still.

The still belongs to two old friends – now business partners – Welshman Sion Edwards and Harrington local Tom Warner. Sensing a business opportunity due to growing demand for artisan spirits, they have launched Warner Edwards Gin Distillery after two years of research.

Their new product – labled Warner Edwards Gin – contains ten ingredients, some of which are sourced in Northamptonshire, and some in Sion’s native Wales. The water used to make the gin comes from a natural spring just yards away from Harrington village.

A quick taste of Warner Edwards gin went down beautifully among all present at the meeting of the Made in Northamptonshire network, where Tom and Sion unveiled their product (the MIN network is a group of producers, retail outlets and other businesses who are based in the county). This new local gin is impressive and has a unique flavour, offering strong notes of orange and a hint of lavender.

It’s fantastic to have a new distiller in the region. The Warner Edwards website is here.
