Amalfi White is a two AA Rosette restaurant in the beautiful town of Melbourne, South Derbyshire.
Amalfi White started as an ambitious renovation of an 1890’s building back in 2013. This revealed some beautiful original features including a stunning barrel-vaulted ceiling in the first-floor ballroom, along with eight stunning silver and crystal chandeliers. The scope of the project then doubled to include unveiling the event space on the first floor to hold weddings, parties and celebrations (this was the original use of the building back in the 19th century).
Amalfi White is a leading restaurant for casual lunches, relaxing evening dinners, tapas night Tuesdays, bubbly bottomless Prosecco lunches, Sunday roasts and private events. It also has a delightful family- and dog-friendly garden, plus a cocktail bar on the ground floor and an event space upstairs with glamorous ballroom and intimate private bar on the first floor.
Offering something for everyone, the menu offers salads, pasta dishes, seafood and classics such as the special prawn cocktail. The grill selection is outstanding – including a vegetarian burger, a classic Longhorn beef burger, and a fantastic selection of locally reared Derbyshire beef steaks (try the Tomahawk to share!). The kitchen also creates a daily grill special ranging from lobster to whole fish and sometimes chateaubriand.
After his visit, Great Food Club’s reviewer wrote: “The cod bites sounded boring but were actually presented beautifully and tasted light and flavoursome. The other seafood was excellent and cooked in the kitchen at the end of the restaurant. I am glad to say that the staff here were knowledgeable and really helpful with gluten-free choices.
“The wine list was reasonably adventurous with unusual Kiwi reds such as Man O’ War Dreadnought Syrah as well as Italian good quality like Amarone and Brunello. The list of whites also avoided the standard Marlborough or Soave alternatives and was equally impressive. One unique offering mentioned on my first visit is that in future you may be able to order any of the finest wines by the glass and not just by the bottle. So if you fancy a glass of Petrus or Krug (doesn’t everyone?) then this could be the place.
“Amalfi White feels more like a restaurant in London, Birmingham, Auckland or Rome. But that is the whole point and they are to be congratulated.”
