Arjuna is a workers’ co-operative where the team does everything from sourcing and buying to selling at the till. This vegetarian shop with its distinctive yellow frontage has over 40 years of trading under its belt and is firmly established in the fabric of Cambridge life.
It is a wonderful place for the health-conscious consumer who cares about sustainable food, and it provides an alternative shopping experience to the supermarket.
Arjuna sells organic fruit and vegetables and aims to source locally where possible. Expect unusual and heritage varieties such as rainbow carrots, golden beetroot and Brussels sprout stalks. Wholefood is the name of the game and everything from aduki beans to quinoa and cashews to cacao are available, all ethically sourced and packed by hand in Arjuna’s own Cambridge warehouse. Loose herbs and spices are sold along with a good range of speciality teas. You can also buy fresh yeast.
There is a take-away counter and catering service, which provides a seasonal menu including superfood salads and vegan curries. And beyond the food Arjuna also sells a wide range of beauty and ethical home products. It is open Monday to Saturday, 9.30am to 6pm.
