The Bank House at Hixon
The Bank House at Hixon is a traditional country inn where you’ll find a warm welcome and good-quality food and drink.
Set in a 400-year-old building eight miles east of Stafford, the pub was lovingly refurbished in 2018 by new owners. Comfortable, but with modern touches, the restoration retained its beautiful original features such as wooden beams. In winter, there are cosy nooks with log burners, making it a great place to sample the regularly changing real ales and lagers.
The food tends towards traditional pub fare, executed to a high standard. So, expect classics like beer-battered haddock, sausage and mash, pie of the week, plus a range of burgers and steaks accompanied by proper, fat chips. You’ll find extensive vegetarian and vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options too.
But what you might not expect in such a traditional setting is the wood-fired pizza oven in the courtyard. This little beauty turns out delicious thin and crispy pizzas. We particularly enjoyed The Fun-Guy: mushrooms, ricotta, pumpkin seeds and chilli flakes on a garlic butter base.
Head to The Bank House at Hixon if you’re yearning for a characterful pub and some well-prepared comfort food. Check opening times on the pub’s website.
