Bar Dos Hermanos
Bar Dos Hermanos, or “two brothers bar”, is a jewel in Leicester’s suburb of Clarendon Park. Taking its name from John and Andy Hussein, the brothers who opened it back in 2002, it is styled as a 1940s Cuban bar after the pair fell in love with the country while travelling. Most of the decoration in the bar has been brought back from their travels and helps to give it a unique feel, while the laid-back Spanish music adds to the atmosphere.
The bar serves a wide selection of beers, wines and spirits, but prides itself on its cocktails. The list is extensive, but if you’re going to have one, make it the mojito. It’s incredible – and very difficult to stick to the one. But there’s a happy hour on cocktails every day of the week, which makes it a little easier to sample a few more!
As well as drinks, Bar Dos Hermanos serves food, including tapas during the week and the legendary breakfast and brunch menu at weekends. Kedgeree, rosti, huevos rancheros and French toast are available, but the Classic British Breakfast is something else. You can choose from different types of sausage, different cured bacon, how your eggs are cooked, and the homemade hash browns are amazing. The ingredients are locally sourced where possible, too.
Bar manager Harry Hussein sums up Bar Dos perfectly: “Dos has something for everyone, whether it’s a relaxed midweek drink, something more lively at weekends, or weekend breakfasts and brunches.” It certainly does. And when you go, you’ll wonder why you didn’t try this piece of Cuba in the heart of Leicester a long time ago.
