Birkin Tea Room
This little tea room is a great place to stop off for afternoon tea. Serving a good variety of sandwiches, both hot and cold, great coffee and a vast array of scrumptious homemade cakes plus several specials of the day – it’s the place to be!
The tea room opens at around 10am and closes around 3.30pm. The pretty wooden cabin is situated at the side of fishing ponds, which are always busy. It’s a lovely, peaceful place.
Birkin Tea Room was nominated as one of the ‘Official Team Sky cafes’ for the recent Tour De Yorkshire Stage 2. It even provides bike racks for the many cyclists who visit! It’s the perfect refuelling stop for peddlers.
Afternoon tea is great value. Tiered plates arrive with finger sandwiches and a small quiche, a scone with clotted cream and jam, and topped off with a selection of homemade cakes.
The quirky interior, complete with crocheted blankets, bright cushions and mismatched pretty crockery, is only small but there is plenty of covered exterior seating overlooking the fish ponds.
This hidden gem is well worth a short drive from the A1 or M62, provides great value, and has friendly staff. So typical of Yorkshire hospitality.
