The Bread Shed
Strolling around Beverley in East Yorkshire is like going back in time to a delightful rural market town. Indeed, it was once noted as the best place to live in England, and comes complete with cream phone boxes.
On a recent visit we came across The Bread Shed, located down a small side street called Ladygate. Here we met Liz Parkin, the owner of this little gem. She bakes Tuesday to Saturday on the premises: no pre-mixes, concentrates, pastes or preservatives here. Liz tweets her bread specials, baked daily: cheese and chilli, maybe? Or spelt-and-raisin bread? Or how about sticky Chelsea buns and freshly baked teacakes?
Liz starts with the best ingredients: the finest flour, yeast, sea salt and olive oil. Extras include top quality butter, free-range eggs, dried fruit and fresh herbs.
It’s great to walk in the bakery and see the bread being made right there. We have to recommend the Chelsea buns!
