Burleighs Distillery is a craft gin distillery situated in Leicestershire’s Charnwood Forest. It is the home of Burleighs Dry London Gin and Burleighs other brands.
Burleighs Gins are made in ‘Messy Bessy’, a 450-litre copper pot still. The main botanicals used are juniper berries (by law gin must contain juniper, which provides the overriding flavour) and coriander. After these, Burleighs takes inspiration from the woods nearby – silver birch, iris, dandelion, burdock, angelica root and elderberry. The resulting flavour is well balanced, with woody, earthy undertones and a long, dry finish.
Burleighs hosts regular distillery tours here. The 90-minute events give juniper fans a chance to hear how the three main expressions of the company’s Burleighs Gin are crafted.
Distillery tour guests get to see how Burleighs’ shiny bronze still “Messy Bessy” is fired up with base spirit and botanicals to produce 600 bottles each run, and how the product is perfected, bottled and despatched. You’ll be greeted with a G&T and have the chance to try all three gins.
