While you’re enjoying lunch at Burrough Court Coffee Shop, you might not realise that it was once the centre of a rather royal scandal. In the 1930s, a certain Wallis Simpson was here enjoying a lovely stay with her friend Lady Furness (who resided at Burrough Court at that time) when in walked the Prince of Wales. I think we all know what happened next.
It’s unlikely that you’ll witness such scenes today, but, you can most definitely soak up the history when you visit the coffee shop housed in a quintessentially English cottage within the grounds. The gardens are landscaped and there’s a yoga and pilates studio where the farmyard used to be.
The business is family-run and the coffee shop carefully sources its suppliers – you’ll find the best locally-roasted coffee and expertly crafted tea. Breakfast, lunch and cakes are served from Monday to Friday from 8am to 3.30pm. Much of the menu features seasonal ingredients and plenty of it is homemade. Gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan options are always available, too.
