Lea and Robert Darling have been doing the rounds at farmers’ markets with their baked goods since 2000 and their puddings, cakes and brownies are now stocked across the length and breadth of the country.
Based just outside Darlington, the Darlings make and hand wrap all their sticky puddings, Christmas puddings and brownies in small batches at Burtree House Farm, where they previously reared Kelly Bronze turkeys, guinea fowl and chickens. Made using milk and cream from the neighbouring organic dairy farm, English butter and free-range eggs, these luxurious desserts and cakes make rich, sweet treats. It’s even been said that people can’t tell the difference between their gluten-free sticky toffee and Christmas puddings to the ordinary ones.
Lea, who created all the recipes, says the idea is to produce a pudding that tastes as though you made one yourself at home: “We put a great deal of care and attention into each one of our puddings, and we make sure we use the best ingredients to make a tasty product,” she explains.
The Guild of Fine Food are also fans of Burtree Puddings as every one from the sticky variety to their Christmas selection has been awarded at least one Great Taste award, and their sticky toffee pudding was also named Supreme Champion.
