Friends Sam Chadwick and Daniel Owen are the duo behind Cherrywoods Smokehouse, purveyors of authentic American-style, slow-smoked barbecue. Cooking with cherrywood only, they slowly smoke their pork, beef, halloumi and vegetables – the meats for up to 14 hours – before serving them in buns with a choice of made-from-scratch condiments. These include Cherrywoods BBQ sauce and a delicious pineapple, mint and jalapeño relish.
“The feedback we have received is amazing,” says Sam. “We are always asking for criticism to help us evolve our products. We like to keep things simple so we only cook with wood, smoke, salt and pepper.”
We discovered Cherrywoods Smokehouse at St Ives Farmers’ Market and were blown away by the ‘Cherrywoods Full Works’ – half pork shoulder and half beef brisket served with cheese in a bun loaded with all the condiments. Sam and Daniel attend food events but their main focus is private catering. This is brilliant party food!
“We were drawn to barbecue because it’s communal,” says Sam. “You can all sit down with strangers and enjoy the simplicity of fire, food and company. And of course drink. Bricks and mortar is our goal!”
