Pasan Nissanka left Sri Lanka to study at university in the UK but he really missed the food he had enjoyed at home. Over time, he made some friends who were also from Sri Lanka and the group began to cook meals together inspired by their favourite family recipes. People loved the dishes and in 2018, Colombo Street was born.
Colombo Street started life as a food truck offering traditional street food dishes from Sri Lanka at events across the Midlands. Word spread and Colombo Street grew evermore popular winning both fans and awards. Now, in addition to the food truck, Colombo Street has a restaurant in Nottingham’s Fletcher Gate.
Bold flavours and vibrant dishes appear on the menu and you can enjoy tapas-style dining or simply opt for a larger dish. Choosing however, will be the tough part – will it be Coco Chicken Kottu? Jackfruit Curry? Lankan Zinger Burger? And then there’s the cocktails such Cosmic Colombo which is a blend of Arrack with ginger beer. Brunch is popular with a special platter that combines sweet and savoury options and there’s even a menu for little ones.
