Cottage of Content
The Cottage of Content in the idyllic Herefordshire hamlet of Carey was named Country Pub of the Year 2017 by the Good Pub Guide. Not only is it a cracking traditional country inn, it is also an atmospheric gastropub, and the charming bar is a lovely, cosy place in which to eat. Not surprisingly, it is a popular port of call for locals, ramblers, cyclists and dog walkers alike.
The Cottage of Content pub serves delicious food, complemented by an excellent wine list, and has a well-deserved reputation as one of Herefordshire’s best restaurants. The menus cater for all tastes and from experience we can say the service is excellent. The bar and dinner menus feature daily specials. There is also children’s menu and a tapas menu available Friday evening.
On our visit, the delicious sharing platter was a treat, comprising Middle White pork sausage & chorizo, fritto misto, olives and Parmesan, cheese & ale pot, crackling ‘stix’ and warm bread. The main course – tender lamb slowly cooked in local ale – was equally delicious.
If you are looking for a rural retreat, The Cottage also has five guest rooms – it is the perfect base for exploring beautiful Herefordshire.
