Karl Tyler and Kat Galvin took over this pub in the village of Rolleston in March 2019, naming it The Dapper Spaniel after their stylish canine, Archie.
The menu offers pub classics cooked with care and style. However, there are some surprises, too, such as Karl’s Crispy Fried Chicken. This dish comes with chicken gravy, coleslaw, skinny fries, chicken skin salt and chipotle mayonnaise. It’s one of their most popular dishes.
Other dishes include a wonderful braised beef feather blade with potato mash, carrot, tenderstem broccoli, chestnut mushrooms and jus. Karl is also proud of his sticky toffee pudding, which is based on a James Martin recipe he’s tweaked to his style.
The Dapper Spaniel, which has rooms, also runs popular Afternoon Teas with finger sandwiches and an array of homemade pastries and cakes. You don’t have to eat in – the takeaway and delivery menu includes pizza, burgers and even roasts on Sundays between 12-5pm.
There is much to admire about this village pub.
