We first came across Darlish at the St Albans Food Festival. They were operating out of their colourful ice cream cart. Now Darlish has a permanent location right by the clock tower in the city centre. It is by our reckoning the UK’s first Persian ice cream parlour!
Making ice cream in small batches with Persian-inspired flavours, Laura and Jan serve up some exciting and unusual combinations. These include Orange Blossom & Pistachio; Coconut & Barberry; Saffron, Rosewater & Pistachio; Rhubarb, Pomegranate & Rose Sorbet (one of my favourites); Muscavado & Molasses; Chocolate & Halva; and Bastani (Saffron, Pistachio & Rose), which is a traditional Iranian Ice Cream.
They also sell some wonderful Halva such as Chocolate Orange, Pistachio and Coconut & Cardamom. Darlish serve Turkish coffee and Persian tea too, along with juices, Sharbats (drinks prepared from fruits or flower petals) and pastries. I also noticed ice cream sandwiches on the board.
You can still hire out their ice cream cart for weddings and special events.
Darlish is a terrific addition to the St Albans food scene!
