English Whisky Co
The English Whisky Co is proud to be producing whisky in Norfolk where the best barley is grown and the local Breckland water is superb. The secret of great whisky is high quality ingredients, time and patience, all of which we have an abundance in Norfolk.
The Nelstrop family have been farming for over 600 years and establishing a whisky distillery felt like a natural progression for James Nelstrop and his son Andrew. When James turned 60 he felt too young to retire but needed a change. After researching whisky production in Ireland, Scotland and Wales, they submitted planning permission for a distillery and their dream turned into reality. In 2006 they distilled their first whisky.
In 2015 ‘Chapter 14’ from the English Whisky Co was awarded the highest accolade of European Whisky of the Year – quite an achievement for a distillery that has been producing single-malt whisky for just 10 years.
You can visit the distillery daily where you’ll find an informative visitors’ centre, coffee shop and, of course, distillery shop. Apparently our taste buds evolve every seven years, so if you don’t think you’re a whisky drinker, now might be the time to test your taste buds. Andrew Nelstrop offers some very good advice – ‘drink with water’. According to Andrew there is no shame in that.
