Fischer’s at Baslow Hall
Fischer’s at Baslow Hall is a highly individual slice of country luxury offering top-class food. It has had a Michelin Star since 1994 and also boasts three Red AA Rosettes.
Set in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales within walking distance of Chatsworth, the Hall was bought by Max and Susan Fischer in 1988. They have given it a homely feel, focusing on comfort and character. “We want our guests to relax and be pampered, to enjoy good food and wine, and return to their daily lives refreshed,” says Max.
Head chef Rupert Rowley – a Sheffield lad who has worked at Raymond Blanc’s Manoir au Quat’ Saison in Oxford, John Burton Race’s L’Ortolan in Reading, and Gordon Ramsay’s flagship triple Michelin-starred Chelsea restaurant – combines classic favourites with modern combinations. Rupert relies on British produce that’s in season, including Derbyshire lamb, Scottish razor clams, Cornish shellfish and Yorkshire forced rhubarb. He also cooks with herbs and vegetables grown in Baslow Hall’s sublime five-acre gardens. “Max’s garden attracts as much admiration as the food,” says Rupert.
A good way to introduce yourself to the delights of Fischer’s is through “Lunch For Less“, which runs from Monday to Thursday until the end of November and offers Michelin-starred fine dining for less than £30 (two courses for £25 and a third course for an extra £8.50).
Baslow Hall’s 11 bedrooms are individually styled, offering good beds, high quality Egyptian cotton sheets, fluffy white towels, robes and luxurious toiletries.
