The Greyhound Inn is a large village pub in Burton-on-the-Wolds near Loughborough.
It has well-tended gardens to the front and rear and was overall winner of The Spencer Memorial Garden Competition in 2011 (highly commended in 2012), making it a good spot for a summertime drink and a bite to eat. If it’s chilly, you’ll probably prefer to hunker down near the log burner in the attractive bar/dining room.
The menu is broadly British with a selection of filling favourites and daily specials. Licensee Paul Stevens, who runs the pub with his wife Tina, says: “We use the best seasonal ingredients from local producers and serve freshly cooked food every day. Our Sunday roast is particularly popular.” Paul shoots his own game during the season and this often appears on the menu.
The Greyhound complements the fresh food with a range of well-kept, award-winning cask ales and a comprehensive wine list – the pub was area champion in a national wine cellar competition last year.
The Greyhound also hosts regular events, including live music on the last Friday of every month, and a Curry Club. “We’ve been at the Greyhound for more than five years and work hard to create an excellent village pub with a warm and friendly atmosphere,” says Paul. It has disabled access and facilities, and children are welcome.
