Hope & Anchor at South Ferriby
The Hope & Anchor at South Ferriby on the banks of the Humber was recommended to Great Food Club by two-time Great Food Club Producer of the Year, Jane Tomlinson of Redhill Farm Free Range Pork near Gainsborough. She met the pub’s kitchen team when they came to visit her farm in summer 2019.
Jane says: “This pub, which has a modest exterior, is an absolute stunner. Head chef Slawek [full name: Slawomir Mikolajczyk] used to be head chef at Michelin-starred Winteringham Fields near Scunthorpe. His knowledge and Polish food heritage makes The Hope & Anchor unique. The team take simple cuts and turn them into sublime food while remaining unpretentious. They serve up in a modest building that has tons of atmosphere and welcomes everyone.”
The pub is casual and informal but does not compromise on food quality. The focus is on simplicity, flavour and high-quality ingredients. Located just five minutes from the Humber Bridge, if you love a good pub and superb cooking, make sure you pay it a visit.
