The Kedleston Country House
The Kedleston Country House, run by Derby Brewing Company, is a restaurant, bar and hotel that was refurbished in 2015 via a £1.3m investment. Situated a few minutes’ drive from Derby city centre, it’s a beautiful Georgian building that comes with lots of history. The Derby Brewing Co team are keen for The Kedleston to be somewhere that feels special but which welcomes everyone. Despite its aristocratic air, you don’t need to wait for a grand occasion to eat here. Snackers, casual diners, and visitors eager to breathe in the historic surroundings with a glass or two are all welcome too.
The restaurant and bar are open Wednesday to Sunday for lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and bar snacks (Sunday lunch: 12-6pm). The relaxed ‘Fish & Fizz Fridays’ (6pm–9pm) are proving popular. Diners can enjoy fresh fish and a glass of fizz for £19.95 (meat and vegetarian dishes are available too).
On our visit, we chose the ‘Taste of the Kedleston’ menu consisting of “locally sourced seasonal produce from trusted local farmers”. No starched tablecloths or silver service here – the dining experience is informal and relaxed. Our meals were nicely prepared, cooked and presented. The staff were attentive and friendly.
If you haven’t visited The Kedleston before, we recommend you pay it a visit. It’s a beautiful, historic place that’s been lovingly restored. The well-cooked food and welcoming atmosphere are the icing on the cake.
