L & AE Munns and Son
Westmoor Farm is in the heart of the Fens, just west of the market town of Chatteris. The Munns family has farmed here since October 1959 when Alice and Lionel Munns took on the tenancy of a 21-acre smallholding and old farmhouse. Funding was provided from a £100 pools win and extended credit from suppliers!
The farm now comprises 500 acres of arable cropping and is run as a family business by George, Jane and Lucy Munns. It has gained an enviable reputation for conservation work and is run as a traditional Fenland farm. It has changed little since 1959, except for a flock of free-range geese kept for Christmas.
The Munns grow potatoes, sugar beet and oilseed rape. The jewel in the arable crown is Munns’ award-winning extra virgin cold-pressed rapeseed oil, which is available throughout the region and beyond in 300 stockists.
Munns’ free-range geese are highly regarded too, and well worth considering for Christmas. Also look out for the farm’s goose fat, duck fat, honey and golden syrup.
