You can feel this bright and homely café’s strong personality as soon as you walk in the door, and you’ll want to linger. Whether you’re after a healthy breakfast so delicious that it feels naughty, or a long lunch filled with flavour, Nutrition Joe’s offers beautiful local breads, chickens roasting in front of your eyes, homemade salads and energy-packed cakes.
What could be better than a great café next to a gym? On our visit we tried Nutrition Joe’s version of afternoon tea. It was presented on platters of recycled vinyl records: on the bottom 33 were neat wraps of smoked salmon, pulled pork and salad. The middle disc displayed wholemeal scones, homemade hummus and thin crisps. And perched proudly on the top deck were chocolate cakes and tasty gluten-free energy balls containing dates, cocoa and pumpkin seeds. Not so naughty but oh so nice!
NJ’s menu is packed with healthy options – even a skinny cheesecake – and its meatballs, steak, burgers, sweet potato fries and several varieties of deli salads make great lunch or dinner options. There are also healthy homemade smoothies, shakes and juices, as well as beers, including a local pale ale, plus a small wine menu.
NJ’s is one of the best places to hide yourself away for a few hours of reading, working or simply people-watching.
