Old Bicycle Shop
I do like a place with history and the Old Bicycle Shop has plenty!
This restaurant and bar is located in Regent Street in what was formerly Howes Cycles, reputed to be the country’s oldest bicycle shop. It is also rumoured that Charles Darwin purchased a bicycle here in the 19th century.
The restaurant is appropriately full of upcycled things but where the food and drink is concerned, they are thoroughly up to date.
The Old Bicycle Shop is open for brunch, drinks, lunch and dinner. You could have a brunch of smashed avocado, sourdough, kidney beans and corn, almond dukkah. For lunch you might go for seared and smoked mackerel fillet, carrot and black quinoa tabbouleh and beetroot yoghurt. For dinner? Perhaps pan-fried stone bass, beetroot purée, saffron risotto, mussels and crispy rocket. On my visit I enjoyed the Old Bicycle Shop version of that Tunisian classic – shakshuka. There are also plenty of vegan and vegetarian options.
You might want to book as this popular Cambridge spot can get busy.
