Ostlers at Number 1
Ostlers, owned by well-known local Ben Kelsey, is a real find. It’s intimate, relaxed and perfect for lovers of well-prepared, locally sourced food. You can sit outside on the terrace in summer and watch the world go by, or enjoy warm evenings from behind the half-open stable-style doors, which add to the continental feel of things. And when it’s colder there’s a log burner to keep things cosy.
The décor and colour palette has a distinctive vintage style, complemented by simple but elegant place settings with fresh flowers on every table. Interesting locally produced artwork is discreetly available for sale.
The menus are sophisticated yet unpretentious and the specials board is always changing, while the monthly tasting events offer a great experience. All that is topped off by front-of-house staff who are friendly and knowledgeable.
