Peak Feast is a vegetarian and vegan-friendly family bakery hidden away in the beautiful Derbyshire village of Youlgrave. It bakes and sells hearty, lovingly baked cakes, pies, ready meals, and more, and attracts walkers, farm workers and cyclists from miles around.
The house special is the Homity Pie, a chunk of goodness perfectly suited to the hills and dales in this part of the world. You won’t lack the energy needed to walk or cycle up any Derbyshire peak after eating one of these beauties.
Owner Dawn, who also supplies trade clients, says: “We believe in ‘proper’ baking and cooking so don’t use any packet mixes or artificial frostings or flavourings – just simply good handmade food to order.”
Peak Feast uses free-range eggs and bakes fresh every weekday. You won’t be disappointed by the prices and there’s a growing gluten-free range, too.
On our visit we enjoyed impressively large slices of delicious carrot cake sitting on wooden benches next to the bakery. With historic Youlgrave surrounding you and the River Bradford ambling past not far below, it’s a lovely spot in which to refuel.
