Pearce’s Farm Shop & Cafe
Situated just off the A10 outside Buntingford, this farm shop and café is a Mecca for foodies in Hertfordshire and beyond. The Pearces have farmed in the area for 45 years and first started to sell their produce from a shed in 1982.
The shop is bursting with a cornucopia of lovely products from fruit and vegetables to meat, artisan cheeses and high-end delicatessen products. We had some of Granny Pearce’s marmalade on sourdough toast for breakfast just before writing this article! All the produce at Pearce’s has been carefully chosen and is sourced locally from their own farm and neighbouring businesses where possible.
Once your baskets are running over with goodies, it’s time to stop off in the café for sustenance. Sit in the airy dining room or terrace and enjoy the delights of rural Hertfordshire. On our lunchtime visit we enjoyed a superb Roasted Hake Supreme with a fricassee of chorizo, squid, potatoes and samphire, finished with pickled fennel. We selected this from the ever-changing specials menu. To finish? What else but strawberries from the farm and all washed down with a lovely chilled glass of rosé. Pearce’s Café is also open for breakfast, afternoon tea and serves an excellent Sunday luncheon.
You can pick your own strawberries and raspberries here when in season, too. If only everybody could have a Pearce’s in their neighbourhood!
