Planet Leicester Bakers
Planet Leicester Bakers is the creation of Michelle Stratford – a baker who jumps on her ‘bread bike’ every week to deliver loaves to her home city. Every Friday she bakes to order and then pedals her bread into Leicester along a route that goes from Thurmaston, through Belgrave and via New Walk and the Cultural Quarter to Clarendon Park and London Road. If their delivery address is on the route, locals can sign up to a mailing list to get details of what will be baked, how to take delivery, pay and any other details.
Past bread bike treats have included plaited challah bread, honey & sesame plait and sourdough. The bread bike once stood in the city centre but the pandemic has necessitated a change to ensure everyone’s safety. The delivery service is growing week by week.
Michelle’s bread bike has featured in the local newspaper and on BBC Radio Leicester, and people love the ‘green’ nature of her idea, as well as her delicious bread. She also offers private training for home bread-bakers, public speaking and team building (though these services are currently on hold due to COVID-19). To find out more, visit the Planet Leicester Bakers website, Facebook page and Instagram (links opposite). You can also sign up to a general news mailing list by emailing Michelle directly.
