Pump Street Bakery & Café
As proud members of the Real Bread Campaign, it’s all about the bread at Pump Street Bakery… real bread: bread made by hand using traditional methods and natural ingredients, baked and usually eaten within a few hours. Sourdoughs and baguettes are the house specialities but it’s also worth trying the more unusual offerings such as walnut, potato and olive loaves.
Visitors travel from miles around to sample the breads and pastries at this foodie haven based on the edge of the Orford Salt Marshes on the Suffolk coast. Once there you can either purchase direct from the bakery or visit the cosy café and enjoy simple meals centred on the bread and local produce. A nice touch is the communal table set amongst the smaller tables, where you can mingle with other guests and compare notes.
The café menu is simple and changes daily to make the best use of seasonal produce. Expect the likes of French toast with bacon, bananas and maple syrup; granola and seasonal fruit compote; bacon and avocado rolls; and unusual seasonal salads. All are served alongside the best artisan coffee and tea.
And you simply must try the Eccles cakes!
