Riddle & Finns
Riddle & Finns is a seafood restaurant that oozes character. It’s smack bang on the Brighton promenade, beneath its iconic arches, and feels rather like a very stylish fisherman’s cabin. The main restaurant is upstairs and if you are lucky you’ll get a table on the upper half, by the window looking out to the sea and the Palace Pier.
On our visit we started with the calamari with peanut and ginger dipping sauce, plus pan-fried Brighton scallops with lemon and parsley, chorizo and chilli. The braised octopus and mixed sashimi sorely tempted us – maybe next time.
Next came lobster thermidor and fries, and Rasam fish curry with jasmine rice, shrimp and aubergine bhaji with poppadom. The lobster was a real slice of indulgence: sweet and tender. The curry was perfectly spiced and the seafood within deliciously fresh and succulent.
Riddle & Finns offers a touch of elegance, class and decadence… and amazing views. On a sunny Brighton day with a window seat, it’s hard to imagine a more pleasant – and delicious – way to spend a few hours in Brighton.
A second Riddle & Finns is located in the Brighton Laines (12 Meeting House Lane, Brighton, BN1 1HB).
