The Royal Oak
The Royal Oak has become an enticing, classic village pub under the ownership (since autumn 2018) of brothers James and Patrick Anderson. The duo have plenty of high-quality pub experience and run a tight ship. That said, they also know exactly what makes a relaxed a country pub tick, so have turned this into a lovely spot for a laid-back meal or a relaxing drink. The charms of this village hostelry remain in tact and its strengths are amplified.
The food is of a good standard, making use of high-quality local suppliers and seasonal ingredients. On our visit, the Sunday roast of rare beef was nicely cooked and well presented, with a side dish of superior homemade cauliflower cheese and a satisfying, crispy-on-the-outside-fluffy-on-the-inside Yorkshire pud. The service was spot on, too.
The Royal Oak is an attractive, charming, cosy place to eat and drink. Recommended.
