The Sea Tree
The Sea Tree in Cambridge is a great local fish and chip shop with a difference. It’s also a previous runner-up in BBC Radio 4’s Food & Farming Awards for ‘Best Takeaway’ and comes highly recommended by food critic Charles Campion.
The Sea Tree offers traditionally cooked fish and chips, but their menu is wide and varied. Alternatives include mackerel and calamari cooked the way you want. They also have a wet-fish counter where you can buy all sorts of fish. You can even place an order for them to pick up from their suppliers.
Ingredients are fresh and sourced as locally as possible. They travel to Billingsgate Market to select the freshest fish from their suppliers and potatoes are from Wicken Fen, produced by Pope Potatoes. Their Mill Road neighbour, Hilary’s, supplies all the fruit and vegetables. Jumbo sausages come from Andrew Northrop Butchers, another business on Mill Road.
On our last visit, we sat in the small seated area and were treated to pan-fried plaice with sautéed new potatoes, shrimp and beurre noisette. Perfection!
