Seven Restaurant & Cafe Bar
Seven, based in Pride Park, Derby, was a worthy winner of Best Restaurant in the Derby Food & Drinks Award 2014. It may not be the most scenic place to eat in Derbyshire but certainly offers a unique experience, with a slick, modern feel, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a comfortable, light and airy dining room. There is space here for more than 100 diners.
Owner Helen Salloway is a professionally trained chef who after a lifetime of working with food, realised her dream and opened a restaurant in her home town in 2014. She saw a gap in the market, recognising that more than 10,000 people work at Pride Park with many more visiting on business.
Seven’s focus is on seasonal, British and often locally sourced ingredients, with its interesting and varied menus offering the likes of slow-braised Derbyshire beef and char-grilled calves liver with crisp pancetta; twice-cooked Packington (Staffordshire) pork belly with sweet potato dauphinoise and black pudding bon bon; plus lighter meals such as croque monsieur or a Moroccan salad. You can also order afternoon tea and breakfasts here, whether of the Champagne of full English variety.
