Spoke & Stringer
Spoke & Stringer is a cafe, bar and shop. Everything they do is based around adventure and ride culture – whether it’s bikes, motorbikes or surfboards.
I have a feeling that if Spoke & Stringer as a venue could speak it’d tell you to “work hard, play hard and fuel your body with the best food and drink you can”. Nestled below the old boathouse, on a level with the water and opposite the SS Great Britain, their location is perfect for summer rays and cosy for winter nights.
If you were to ask most food lovers in Bristol what Spoke & Stringer is good for, they’d say brunch. Serving from 8:30am on weekdays and 9:30am on weekends, their breakfast and lunch menu is indeed very appetising with items like shakshuka and salmon, and eggs & samphire on toasted rye bread.
However, in our opinion, it’s well worth checking out their evening tapas menu, seemingly a hidden gem amongst locals, although surely not for long. Choose from a small but well-thought-out wine menu and get stuck in with seasonal, freshly cooked tapas and pintxos with a modern edge. Look out for charred octopus with mojo verde and heirloom tomato salad with za’atar basil and citrus.
But leave room for pudding because, well… why wouldn’t you when the menu includes items like salted caramel brownie with orange candy?
