Set in 500 acres and exuding country luxury like a pair of velvet-lined, gold-plated Hunter wellies, Stapleford Park near Melton Mowbray is grand but also relaxed. And relaxing.
Its grounds were landscaped by Capability Brown and it really is a memorable place to dine, whether for high tea, a lunchtime snack or a three-course evening meal. Or if you prefer, you could always just go for a drink in the bar to soak up the opulent surroundings.
Driving through the estate past St Mary Magdalene Chapel feels like slipping into a Jane Austen novel. The bar and lounge are great for a pre-dinner glass of wine, while the Terrace, Lounge or Old Kitchen are intimate and relaxed spaces for dining.
You can choose between the simpler, lighter Lounge Menu or the full-blown Dinner Menu. The latter offers the likes of loin of salted cod with saffron pearl barley, rocket, clams & cured yolk; or Dingley Dell piglet belly, charred spring onion, thyme potatoes and spinach.
Stapleford is a special and enjoyable place to visit, and needn’t cost the earth.
