Wilmslow has a reputation for being both proudly posh and utterly wagtastic (much the same, depending on your point of view), and there’s not a jot wrong with either – sometimes you want to shun rustic homeliness for chic urban style. Suburban Green is the perfect retreat for a slice of upmarket sophistication.
By day, the tapas-style menu is considered and elegant: braised ox cheek croquettes cooked with horseradish & crispy shallots; tempura cod cheeks with saffron aioli & lemon; halloumi salad with pink figs & basil oil; beef short ribs with baby mushrooms, pancetta & a sticky jus.
By night, Suburban Green transforms into a glamorous affair – a bustling bar where spirits are high, dresses are short, cologne is strong, and drinks are aplenty. Naturally, folk will be swilling Champagne and glitzy cocktails, and you can rely on all the trendy classics: Porn Star Martini, Cosmopolitan, Old Fashioned, Ginger Rogers.
Head here on a weekend morning and both the menu and the atmosphere lend themselves spectacularly to imagining you’re brunching in New York City. You’ll find eggs benedict with crispy bacon, soft runny yolks, wilted spinach and rich hollandaise; smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on thick slices of white sourdough; warm, fluffy pancakes topped with a choice of fresh blueberries, yogurt & honey, or bananas, toffee sauce & toasted pecans.
If you’re feeling especially fancy (or maybe you need hair of the dog, because you were knocking back the cocktails here the night before) then you’ll be swept off your feet by the Bottomless Brunch – £24.95 for anything your heart desires on the breakfast menu served with a bottomless supply of prosecco. Well, this is Wilmslow, after all…
