Tea Lab is the result of a tea-obsessed science teacher’s passion for the health benefits of the drink, combined with her twin daughters’ expertise in design.
With an MBA and a background in science, founder Julie Crofts-Mitchell loves to experiment. Her daughters Anna and Katie are both design graduates. Between them they created Tea Lab.
Julie’s initial motivation was that she wanted to enjoy the health benefits of green tea – but didn’t enjoy the taste. Her solution was to add other ingredients that also added to the nutritional value. All ingredients are clearly labelled, so you know exactly what you are drinking.
The single-variety teas and some blends are selected by Julie. In addition, Tea Lab has custom blends made to its own recipes by a tea-master. The teas are always loose leaf and organic where possible.
There are five categories: health, fruit and spice, matcha, classic and treat. You select by health benefit (weight, skin, relaxation or immune system), tea type, caffeine level or taste (including caramel, chocolate and popcorn). The novel “treat” teas are not sugar-loaded.
Whether you fancy something different such as date and vanilla rooibos or pina colada fruit infusion, or want to keep it traditional with English Breakfast or Assam, there is a tea here for everyone.
The icing on the cake is the packaging. Ecologically sound, designed to protect the tea and beautiful, you won’t want to decant these into a tea caddy and odds are you will repurpose the jar afterwards.
