The Anchor is a Grade II-listed pub in Burwell, situated half an hour from Cambridge near the Suffolk border. Since April 2017 it has been run by Benjamin Crick and Jean-Mary Myers. Benjamin has plenty of serious culinary experience, having previously worked in such acclaimed places as The Beach in Jersey with Mark Jordan. Jean-Mary focuses on front of house, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
On our visit we enjoyed a lovely summer dish of feta, broad bean, courgette and mint salad. We also tried the hot-smoked salmon and Caesar salad, which was tasty and beautifully presented. Mains comprised perfectly cooked skate wing – a favourite you don’t often see. The skate came with crispy potato squares, samphire and brown shrimp butter. We also enjoyed hake with octopus, haricot beans, chorizo and tomato, which had an authentic Mediterranean look and taste.
The Anchor offers highly accomplished cooking using quality seasonal ingredients from trusted suppliers. The setting is relaxed and friendly. We shall be back!
