The Arcade Street Tavern
The Arcade Street Tavern is a relatively new and very welcome addition to Ipswich’s social scene and one of my own personal favourites.
This hidden gem boasts an unrivalled choice of over 120 of the latest craft beers, with many from the cutting edge of brewing from small independent breweries around the world. Stock is generally limited so changes regularly. If beer isn’t your thing there is plenty more on offer to quench your thirst including an impressive array of over 65 small batch gins, all expertly served with accompaniments to enhance and complement their flavour. The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable, with their own in-house beer sommelier only too happy to share his knowledge and give advice, which often involves an offer of “try before you buy”.
Arcade Street Tavern’s modern but cosy décor creates an inviting and relaxed environment with plenty of outdoor heated seating. Although a few bar snacks are on offer there is no house food, but the outdoor area often hosts ‘Street Food Friday’ in conjunction with other local traders serving great drinking accompaniments such as wood-fired pizzas, souvlaki and hog roast.
This active café bar is always ahead of the game with regular events and product launches such as gin tasting evenings, brewery tap takeovers and DJ sessions. Keep an eye on the website and Facebook page for details.
