The Beer Geek
Graham Cox has plenty of experience in the pub and brewing industry, so it was a small sidestep into retailing local, national and international beers, ciders and premium soft drinks from his own shop. Having explored various locations for his new venture, Graham chose Market Harborough, adding to the thriving food and drink scene in this Leicestershire market town.
The Beer Geek stocks around 130 types of bottled and canned beers and ciders, from local independents such as Nene Valley Brewery, Framework Brewery and Three Hills Brewing to overseas brews from Belgium and the US.
Graham chooses his stock using customer recommendations, word of mouth, beer festivals, social media and buying trips. The selections change constantly as he unearths new beers, but customer favourites earn themselves a regular space on the shelves.
Brews are available in bottles, cans, kegs, boxes and barrels – the latter ideal for large parties. You can also buy takeaway jugs from a changing selection of casks and kegs at the back of the store, in the aptly named “Liquid Deli”. And for the beer lover in your life, personalised gift vouchers are available when you want to leave the choosing to them.
As the microbrewery scene continues to grow, customers are faced with a huge choice. The quirky names and packaging are fun but often give little away about the quality of the contents. With a beer geek like Graham on hand, you can navigate the options and discover your new favourites amongst the vast range – a journey worth embarking on.
