The Bewicke Arms is a classic English country pub in the charming village of Hallaton in Leicestershire. The focus is on locally sourced, seasonal pub classics served in a relaxed and friendly environment.

The Bewicke was shortlisted in the Great Food Club Awards 2017/18, with
our judge saying: “This is a delightful thatched village pub and the setting is hard to beat: Hallaton is a stunning village and this pub is wonderfully cosy. It has been sympathetically rejuvenated and the dining areas are pretty and carefully
designed. A great amount of thought and effort has gone into The Bewicke Arms, making it an idyllic village pub. The food – majoring on traditional pub classics with the occasional twist – is of a very good standard, too.”

Open seven days a week, 12 to 11pm, The Bewicke Arm’s menu changes regularly. Leading the kitchen is Aaron Johnston, formerly of award-winning Rutland pub, The Olive Branch.

  1. Avatar Beryl Starkey says:

Outside it was raining and dull but inside the Bewicke Arms it was bright, comfortable and welcoming. The food was lovely, well cooked and presented. I particularly enjoyed the Thai mussels. We normally mark our Saturday lunches out of 10. This week it was most definitely 10 out of 10. Thanks and all the best for the future. We will be seeing you again.

  2. Avatar Helen B says:

Ate here on bank holiday Monday with husband and teenage daughter. We had starters and between us a veggie, fish and chicken main course. All were cooked to perfection with generous portions. Probably one of the best ‘pub’ meals we have had for a long time.
    Highly recommended.

  3. Avatar DB says:

We visited at lunchtime midweek recently as we had a year previously. Last year we found the food and service well up to our expectations for the prices charged.
This year things had changed and we noticed some staff changes. We were not asked if we wanted bread with the mussels, although the mussels and sauce were very good. We were not asked how we wanted our lamb cooked. For one of our party the lamb was good. For another, parts of it were too tough to eat. We were not asked if we wanted additional vegetables (at extra cost) and the desserts were a little lacklustre.

  4. Avatar Helen says:

For someone that has known the Bewicke for over 20 years, I was really pleasantly surprised at just how good the food is and the atmosphere is back to being like ‘the good old days’.
Superb Sunday lunch menu – it’s not often you can’t choose between all the options, perfect portion sizes and topped off by a thoroughly knowledgeable and friendly waiter and a lovely owner.

  5. Avatar Steve Day says:

Great place for a drive, cycle or walk to, opening in the week and at weekends, fantastic breakfasts or just cakes and drink.
Relaxing inside, nice terrace outside with lovely countryside views.
Been here many times for a ride out on my motorcycle and drive in my car.
Very friendly staff always make you welcome.

If you get Olaf Born heaping praise on a place, that is special.

He was once General Manager of a significant country house and then continued his career as GM at one of the most renowned London clubs.

  14. Avatar Jane says:

Had a fabulous meal there last night. The menu was varied and exciting. When the food arrived the presentation was lovely. Between the four of us we tried starters, mains, and puds. All used fresh tasty ingredients. Service was excellent and staff were charming. Would highly recommend.
