The Brown Cow
Since reopening after an extensive £300,000 refurbishment in November 2013, The Brown Cow has become one of the region’s best craft beer venues, serving an impressive 21 ales, lagers and ciders. It is a traditional-style pub that has won several CAMRA awards, plus the Mansfield Chad’s (the local newspaper) Pub of the Year Award.
It’s all about the beer in here and only a few bar snacks are available, so don’t turn up expecting a gastropub. But if you are a fan of Britain’s national drink you will be able to sample all sorts of styles to your heart’s content.
As part of its refurbishment, The Brown Cow gained a snug – once a cottage, now part of the pub – where 18th century Mansfield poet, playwright and publisher Robert Dodsley used to live.
The Brown Cow is the brewery tap of Chesterfield’s RAW Brewing Company and is owned by Everards Brewery. It is part of Everards’ award-winning Project William scheme, where the family-owned Leicester brewer links up with tenant microbreweries to rejuvenate failing or closed pubs.
