The Chestnut is a traditional village pub serving real ale, craft beers and fine wines. This is a gastropub with an emphasis on casual, relaxed dining offering a range of dishes inspired by British, American and Italian cooking, using ingredients sourced from local suppliers.
Take your pick from a range of “small plates” including Italian platters and garlic flatbreads, and main meals such as ale-battered cod and chips, homemade burgers and spicy enchiladas. Alternatively, go for a hand-rolled stone-baked pizza or filled ciabatta. On Sundays, traditional roasts are served until 5pm.
This is a welcoming and friendly pub that retains many original Victorian/Edwardian features alongside large mirrors, fireplaces and leather seating. The main restaurant area is located in the “library” where there’s an eclectic range of books and a few board games.
Outside there’s some seating at the front of the pub and a delightful sun-trap of a beer garden to the rear, which in summer is a riot of colour with hanging baskets and flower pots.
The owners, Mel and Rich work hard to make their guests welcome, and the pub is both family- and dog-friendly.
