The Clock House Cafe

If it’s homemade cakes, delicious lunches, divine breakfasts and mouthwatering afternoon teas you’re after – all made by a kitchen team who are clearly passionate about fine ingredients and excellent cooking – you should visit The Clock House.

This cafe, which occasionally becomes an evening bistro and also hosts cookery demonstrations, is in an interesting setting too, being situated in the grounds of the British Horological (clock and watchmaking) Institute.

As you park just off the main street in pretty Upton, you initially wonder where on earth the cafe is hiding, but you soon find yourself following the signs and walking into a delightfully quaint enclave of fine food.

As you sit down you’ll soon be enjoying cuisine cooked by head chef and owner Edward Halls, who has some impressive experience under his belt. Not so long ago he was running his own gastropub and cooking in Michelin-starred restaurants for the likes of Marcus Wareing and Gordon Ramsay. His cakes and tarts are up there with the best, but there’s plenty more that that to choose from.

Member offer:

Afternoon tea for two for £25, Monday to Wednesday 2.30-4pm only. Please show your membership card

A cheesy tale....Visited on a dull, cold, but very busy Sunday in February. Couldn't decide what to have : a cream tea or not ?..... In view of the fact that my friend was having Sunday lunch cooked for he we opted for the savoury cream tea. Two perfectly cooked cheese and onion scones, with a dish of cream cheese and another of onion chutney was duly delivered to our table, along with 2 large cups of fresh coffee. The scones may have been small, but were perfectly formed and absolutely delicious. A definite 10/10 and will visit again.... If only to be tempted by the trays of puddings and hot meals on offer !

  3. Peter Guest says:
Old fashioned hospitilityWhat a lovely lunchtime treat we had in this rather old fashioned venue. It was a pleasure to sit and enjoy lovely food, along with the most enjoyable company. We found time to read books, chat to people from local villages and visitors from outside the region calling in once again. All in all a very pleasant lunchtime in north Notts.
