The Crown is a stylish and cosmopolitan boutique hotel and restaurant set in the centre of the charming town of Woodbridge. The large 16th century townhouse underwent a dramatic facelift in 2009 by award-winning London designer David Bentheim and the result is a cool open-plan interior that retains some lovely historic quirks.
The Crown’s two-AA-Rosette restaurant is listed in the Michelin Guide and prides itself on using Suffolk’s extensive natural larder to create an innovative Great British menu, offering intriguing creations such as crab ballotine and bisque with confit artichoke and pork scratching; roasted partridge with mushroom ragout; and blackberry and white chocolate and camomile trifle. Such dishes are all created using the freshest, in-season local produce.
Although the food takes centre stage, the Crown are serious about their drinks too. The contemporary bar stocks good quality wines, lagers and craft beers and the staff are skilful (and entertaining) cocktail makers.
If you are planning on enjoying the drinks, why not stay the night?! The Crown is listed in the Good Hotel Guide and offers ten chic and quirky bedrooms… and if dinner is anything to go by the breakfast menu will definitely deliver!
