The Dusty Knuckle Pizza Company
One of Britain’s most iconic pizzerias, named in The Guardian’s Top 10 UK Pizza Restaurants Outside London, the Dusty Knuckle Pizza Company in Cardiff’s Canton is an extremely quirky dining experience not to forget.
Beginning as a pop-up in 2014 then moving to its current site in 2017, it is owned and run by husband and wife team Phil Lewis and Deb Noyes. The wood-fired pizza oven produces outstanding pizzas using locally sourced and authentic Italian ingredients.
The menu changes seasonally and the owners are an active part of the Slow Food Movement – so think fresh, creamy burrata, spicy ‘Ndjua sausage, goats’ cheese, even cockles and laverbread. Everything is freshly cooked to order, and the puddings are delicious too.
The pizzas are thin in the centre with wonderfully crisp yet billowing crusts, perfect for dunking into one or two of their trademark dips. By prior arrangement, gluten-free diets are catered for but please remember to book well in advance as this popular restaurant is compact and extremely busy.
The philosophy behind the business is one of real food, real ingredients and the continuing of tradition while embracing local elements. Without doubt The Dusty Knuckle in Cardiff is going to become legendary and will, quite rightly, be talked about for years to come. Takeaways are also available in super eco-friendly aluminium reusable boxes.
