This fully licensed restaurant is based in an old malt house dating back to 1871. It may have a contemporary feel but inside there’s more than a nod to its heritage. Owners Jane and Kev have used or made fixtures and fittings to create an industrial look reflecting the fact that Jane’s family engineering business was based in the building from 1945.
When the GFC team visited The Factory Kitchen in Ilkeston, we were lucky enough to see chefs Jacob and Sophie in action cooking some stunning food to trial a new menu. Head chef Jacob Robinson is a real talent – passionate about creating seasonal, carefully planned and beautifully executed dishes using the skills he picked up working for Marcus Wareing and Richard Corrigan.
The evening dinner menu offers dishes such as Devon crab tart with avocado, fermented tomato and marie rose sauce; lamb loin and belly with labneh, charred radicchio, fregola sarda, pomegranate and cumin sauce; and Gariguette strawberry choux bun with elderflower and basil.
During the day there is a casual coffee-shop-style vibe with freshly cooked breakfast favourites, delicious lunch dishes and homemade cakes. Specialist coffee from Outpost coffee roasters (Nottingham), teas from ‘The Tea Makers of London’ and a range of wines, beers and soft drinks mean there is something for everyone.
