The Geese & Fountain

The Geese & Fountain is a traditional village inn with a rustic feel located at Croxton Kerrial on the A607 Melton Mowbray to Grantham road. It’s the sort of welcoming, relaxing place where given half the chance you’ll want to settle in for a few drinks, and if you’re a beer lover you’re in luck because the selection is outstanding. From craft beers and lagers from the likes of BrewDog and Magic Rock to locally brewed cask ales, there’s something here for everyone. Everything on draught is produced locally and the wine list is 100% organic.

The food here is hearty, honest and mainly locally sourced. Chickens are farmed 200 yards away by the Botterill family, who have been raising poultry in Croxton for over 50 years; cream and cheese are from Belvoir Ridge Creamery in Eastwell; bison from Bouverie Lodge in Nether Broughton; hogget from Burgin Lodge in Waltham on the Wolds; and sausages from David Cox Butcher’s in Stathern.

On our visit we enjoyed bangers and mash on a bed of cabbage, plus a chicken and pesto sandwich. Other temptations include scotch eggs, ploughman’s and homemade pies. All ingredients are fresh, well prepared and good quality. We were driving so had coffee, which was also of a decent standard.

The Geese & Fountain is a well-run rural pub that welcomes all-comers. Village pubs like this are getting rarer unfortunately and should not be taken for granted. Visit, support and enjoy!

It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. It also has seven en suite B&B rooms

  1. Colin Webb says:

We try and frequent most of the local pubs around Grantham from time to time. We have been to The Geese and Fountain twice in the last six months and found the food and service there to be quite exceptional and for the quality of the meals (we have had the Sunday lunch on both occasions), the cost is more than reasonable and the pub fully deserves the five stars. We look forward to the next visit.

  2. Mrs S Driver says:

We went for lunch on Monday. The waiting / bar staff were good and friendly. My husband ordered a pie, which we were told was chicken and ham however it was quite full of mushrooms which he does not like. When this arrived it was seriously under cooked with a thick layer of uncooked dough. They did remove it from the bill however it has put us off. It took long enough to have been cooked to order, I think possibly the pastry was too thick or too cold? My Ploughman’s was OK, the ham and Stilton were nice, the pork pie not the worst or best I have had, the pickles OK however the haslet was not pleasant. Perhaps Monday Lunch is not the best day.

  3. AR says:

A nice pub serving decent food. Well run, honest and welcoming

  4. Christina Mottram says:

This pub offers a great range of beers and other drinks- It has been awarded Pub of the Year by CAMRA for Vale of Belvoir. So far we have eaten there twice- for a Mother’s Day lunch- where we found that the chicken I had enjoyed had come from just up the road in the village. We have also enjoyed a beautiful dinner for our anniversary, and we took advantage of their B&B on site. We also take part in their Acoustic folk nights once a month- 2nd Sunday, where we are made very welcome. The focus on good local quality, whatever they serve.

Always friendly staff who will do what it takes to make their customers happy. Love the approach with organic wines and local beers. I went recently and fancied a simple salad with asparagus and they made it specially for me! Now there’s service!

  8. Liz Yeates says:

The whole is totally greater than the sum of this places parts, and the parts are all amazing. The food, the hosts, the drink, the food, the location, did I mention the food?
Top tip: everything on the menu.

  9. Stacey mcmullen says:

Had a lovely time at this pub. Food was bang on, staff were lovely and landlord was extremely friendly. A venue also supporting live original music. Expecting great things from this tucked away gem.
