The Great House Restaurant
The Great House restaurant and boutique hotel is located in picturesque Lavenham – one of the finest medieval villages in England. It is run by French couple Régis and Martine Crepy, who were deservedly proud to celebrate their 30th anniversary as owners in 2015. In this time they have racked up numerous awards including the AA Inspectors’ Choice Award 2016. The Great House also features in the 2016 Harden’s guide, rated among the ‘Top 30 French Restaurants in the UK’.
On entering you can’t help but be seduced by the charm and history of the ancient timbered building, but despite being surrounded by original features, the furnishing is contemporary and smart. In contrast to the location and building, the menu is predominantly French, as are the staff, hence service is impeccable.
The ambitious menu gives an air of modern French cuisine, with an even choice of fish, meat or vegetarian dishes. During the week the restaurant offers a good value three-course set menu for lunch (£24.95) and dinner (£36.50) or choose from the delectable a la carte menu. The cheese board is not to be missed and has often been described as the best in Britain.
The Great House restaurant has an exclusive feel to it, perfect for a special celebration or treat… and if you wish to extend the occasion there is always the option to stay the night in the on-site hotel.
