The Two-Tailed Lion
The Two-Tailed Lion serves a brilliant range of beers and sandwiches in a fabulous environment.
This is a beautiful, compact city hostelry. On the inside it’s modern-feeling and sophisticated – no expense has been spared on the fittings. The timeless attributes that make a great pub great are also present and correct: a warm welcome, superb beer and wine, and a cosy, enjoyable space to refuel, socialise and relax.
The pub, which opened in summer 2018, serves a superb, constantly changing array of cask and keg beers made by some of the world’s most creative, groundbreaking breweries. The fact it is run by Matt Baker and Alice Hubbard – two Certified Cicerones (a qualification awarded to professionals dedicated to beer) – raises its credentials even further.
On our visit we enjoyed two-thirds of a pint of Double India Porter by East London’s Kernel Brewery. The food offering is simple: toasted sandwiches made with ciabatta from local bakery Brucianni (with locally-sourced condiments and a pickled onion). The range includes Rutland Red Leicester cheese & mango chutney; Charnwood smoked cheddar and paprika cheese & ham with English mustard; and vegan mozzarella & tomato. From 12-5pm Wednesday to Friday, you can have any pint of cask ale and any toasted sandwich for just £5.
With its own Homebrew Club, regular meet-the-brewer evenings and other great events, The Two-Tailed Lion is an excellent addition to central Leicester.
