This sumptuously stocked farm shop sits on the Welbeck estate in north Nottinghamshire, a place that can justifiably claim to be the capital of Britain’s artisan food and drink movement.

Around Welbeck Farm Shop orbit a cheesemaker, a bakehouse, several farmers supplying excellent meats, a brewery, a chocolate maker, and last but not least, the stunning School of Artisan Food. All of these are located on the estate or nearby and all supply this large and exceptional farm shop.

The Harley Café, Harley Gallery and Portland Collection, all next door to the farm shop, plus Dukeries Garden Centre nearby, make Welbeck a brilliant food destination. Fine foods from the local area and the best ingredients from further afield complete the shop’s delicious range. The sourcing policy focuses on low food miles, artisanal food traditions and rigorous taste testing. The butchery counter showcases the best local pork, beef and lamb from the estate and from local farmers. A full range of game is available, including game birds, rabbits and venison from the estate.

Welbeck Farm Shop opened in October 2006 and as it was selling its first sausage, Joe Schneider, in partnership with Randolph Hodgson from London’s Neal’s Yard Dairy, started his Stichelton cheese-making operation at Welbeck. The synergy created by farm shop and cheesemaker working side by side has clearly had a contagious effect. Next, Welbeck Bakehouse was tempted to moved to Welbeck, taking a vacant building. Then the School of Artisan Food joined the party, making use of the estate’s old fire station. One of the latest arrivals is Welbeck Abbey Brewery, launched by Claire Monk.
